While lawyers and judges are the ultimate legal experts, of course, I believe that every citizen should take the time to learn a little about law for several reasons. First, it is important to know your rights, and knowing them can come in handy if anyone ever accuses you of a crime you didn't commit or threatens you legally in another other way. Second, learning about your local, state, and federal laws can help you act as a better citizen. When election time comes around, you can then truly understand ever change in law being proposed by a candidate and whether it benefits society or not. I plan to share posts about law topics explained in plain English on my new blog, so you can come back often to sharpen your legal knowledge!

If you're facing a felony conviction, then you might be worried about how that conviction could impact your life. You might be worried about being able to keep your current job, for example, or you could be worried about being able to find a job in the future. Employment is just one concern that many people have when facing a felony conviction, but it's still a legitimate concern to have. Not only is it a good idea to hire a felony lawyer for other reasons, but you should know that hiring one might just help you stay employed. These are a few reasons why this is true.
You Can Avoid Unnecessary Court Appearances
Of course, when you're facing felony charges, you will more than likely have to appear in court at some point or another. However, your lawyer might be able to handle some of your court appearances for you. This can help you avoid having to miss work for court, which can help you avoid getting in trouble with your employer and losing income. Additionally, your felony lawyer should keep you informed about when all of your court dates are, making it easier for you to make arrangements to take time off of work when necessary.
You Can Reduce the Chances of a Jail or Prison Sentence
Depending on the type of felony that you're facing, your previous criminal record, and a few other factors, you may have to worry about the possibility of being sentenced to jail or prison time. Not only is this a big problem because it will result in a loss of your freedom and will take you away from your family members and friends, it's also a problem because it can quite obviously impact your employment. If you have to spend time in jail or prison, then you won't be able to go to work, and you could permanently lose your job. Hiring a felony lawyer may help you avoid jail or prison time, which is not only good for preserving your job, it's a good thing for you overall.
You May Be Able to Have the Charges Dropped or Reduced
One of the biggest things that you might be worried about is being convicted of a felony and then struggling to find employment because of it. Depending on the details of your case, your lawyer might be able to help you have your charge dismissed or reduced to a misdemeanor. This can help you avoid losing your job because of your felony, and it could make it easier for you to find employment later on if you needed it, too.
