Everyone Should Learn a Little about Law

While lawyers and judges are the ultimate legal experts, of course, I believe that every citizen should take the time to learn a little about law for several reasons. First, it is important to know your rights, and knowing them can come in handy if anyone ever accuses you of a crime you didn't commit or threatens you legally in another other way. Second, learning about your local, state, and federal laws can help you act as a better citizen. When election time comes around, you can then truly understand ever change in law being proposed by a candidate and whether it benefits society or not. I plan to share posts about law topics explained in plain English on my new blog, so you can come back often to sharpen your legal knowledge!

Why You Should Hire An Attorney To Fight Your Speeding Ticket

Kaylee Wells

If you have received a speeding ticket and you want to dispute it in traffic court, you might want to think about hiring a speeding ticket attorney to help you. Even though you can technically represent yourself and your defense in court on your own, you might not want to do that. Here is why:

You Might Not End Up With Points Against Your License

Not all traffic tickets result in points against your drivers license, but some do. Even if you don't currently have any points against your license, it is important to make sure that you are doing everything you can in order to prevent this from being the first time. This is because it only takes a couple of hefty tickets and you could find that you have so many points that your license is going to be suspended. That will make it hard to get to work or take your kids to the doctors. Therefore, you will always want a speeding ticket attorney by your side. Should he or she find that they are unable to prevent points on your license altogether, they may be able to get the number of them reduced.

You Might Be Able To Get The Ticket Thrown Out

If there was not enough evidence, if the police officer that gave the ticket doesn't show up to court, or if the officer wrote down the description of your vehicle wrong, your attorney may be able to get the judge to simply throw out the ticket. You can then walk out of traffic court without any new marks against your driving record, which can be important for employment purposes. After all, there are many employment opportunities out there that are not available to anyone with an imperfect driving record. While you can always ask for the ticket to be thrown out on your own, due to the previous reasons, a judge may try to push the issue anyways. However, when you have an attorney by your side, you have the benefit of his or her expert knowledge of the law and the judge can't overlook that.

Do make sure that you are hiring your attorney as soon as you know you will be taking this matter to court. This will allow your speeding ticket attorney plenty of time to review your case and to build your defense so you will have the best chance at winning your case.
